MBTI Step I
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire is the most extensively used psychometric tool that InDepth Consultants use and has proved to be the most versatile, accurate and informative starting point for Leadership, Coaching and People Development interventions.
The MBTI questionnaire is the most widely used personality questionnaire worldwide, developed by Isabel Myers and Katharine C Briggs. More than 3.5m questionnaires are completed worldwide every year, it is based on over 50 years research and development and is available in 19 languages.
The MBTI questionnaire describes an individual's personality preferences. It represents these in four dimensions:
Extraversion |
or |
Introversion |
Prefers to draw energy from the outer world of activity, people and things
|
|
Prefers to draw energy from the inner world of reflections, feelings and ideas |
Sensing |
or |
Intuition |
Prefers to focus on information gained from the five senses and on practical applications |
|
Prefers to focus on patterns, connections and possible meanings |
Thinking |
or |
Feeling |
Prefers to base decisions on logic and objective analysis of cause and effect |
|
Prefers to base decisions on a valuing process, considering what is important to people |
Judging |
or |
Perceiving |
Likes a planned, organised approach to life, and prefers to have things decided |
|
Likes a flexible, spontaneous approach and prefers to keep options open
|
The various combinations of these preferences result in 16 personality 'types'. Each is associated with a unique set of behavioural characteristics and values. These provide a useful starting point for individual feedback, self-exploration and group discussion. | |
MBTI Step II
An additional tool of the InDepth Consultants psychometric portfolio is the MBTI Step II. The MBTI Step II questionnaire breaks down each of the four MBTI preferences into a further five facets to provide a more in-depth interpretation.
It provides more information on the differences between individuals with the same type preferences and the similarities between those with different type preferences. The MBTI Step II questionnaire uses a fuller set of questions and a complex computer scoring program.
The four preferences encompass the following facets:
|
Extraverted Initiating Expressive Gregarious Active Enthusiastic |
Introverted Receiving Contained Intimate Reflective Quiet |
|
Sensing Concrete Realistic Practical Experiential Traditional |
Intuitive Abstract Imaginative Conceptual Theoretical Original |
|
Thinking Logical Reasonable Questioning Critical Tough |
Feeling Empathetic Compassionate Accommodating Accepting Tender |
Judging Systematic Planful Early starting Scheduled Methodical |
Perceiving Casual Open-ended Pressure-prompted Spontaneous Emergent |
